What is Microbial Fertilizer? How is it Produced,
How is it Used?
The future of agriculture no longer lies in large chemical plants, but in microscopic heroes deep in the soil.
We at Cherry Mic laboratories witness this transformation every day.
In particular, the increasing searches for the question "what is microbial fertilizer" on search engines
show how open our farmers and agricultural professionals are to this sustainable vision. So, what exactly are these products,
which are the biggest agricultural innovation of recent years?
What is Microbial Fertilizer?
In the simplest terms, microbial fertilizer is a natural agricultural formulation containing live
microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) that are beneficial for plant development.
When applied to the soil or directly to the plant seed, these microorganisms colonize the plant's root
system. They maximize the plant's nutrient uptake by binding free nitrogen in the air, dissolving insoluble phosphorus
in the soil, or stimulating plant growth hormones.
Often referred to as bacterial fertilizer, these products restore the natural flora of the soil
while increasing yield.
How is Microbial Fertilizer Produced? From Lab to Field
When building Cherry Mic with my co-founder, our main focus was the process of isolating
and multiplying the right bacterial strains. Organic microbial fertilizer production
requires a serious biotechnological process:
Strain Isolation: Beneficial bacteria are isolated from samples taken from nature,
especially fertile soils.
Fermentation (Multiplication): In a laboratory environment in bioreactors, bacteria are multiplied
by providing the most ideal nutrient environment (carbon and nitrogen sources).
Formulation: These multiplied bacteria are combined with protective substances that will extend their shelf life and
maintain their viability when applied to the soil, bringing them into liquid or solid
form.
How to Use Microbial Fertilizer?
While preparing our 24-page product catalog, the most common question we received from our farmers
was "how to use microbial fertilizer?". Use is very practical and can be integrated into existing agricultural
systems:
Seed Coating: Just before sowing, seeds are coated with the liquid formulation,
dried in the shade, and sown.
Drip Irrigation: Particularly liquid microbial fertilizer forms are added to drip irrigation
tanks to be delivered directly to the plant root zone.
Foliar Application: Certain strains can be applied by spraying directly onto plant
leaves using sprayers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Cherry Mic microbial fertilizer be mixed with chemicals? To maintain the viability
of the bacteria, we do not recommend mixing them in the same tank with heavy chemicals and fungicides.
A few days should be left between applications.
